All-Terrain Self-Propelled Cherry Pickers

Manufacturers have designed the right machines for where the ground conditions aren’t so good. Starting with four wheel drive and traction control for access over rough and loose ground, the right Cherry Picker can get almost anywhere. These Cherry Pickers still need to be on reasonably level and stable ground before the boom is raised. To ensure this happens, control systems are incorporated to limit operations to well within the stability of the base. However it still needs a skilled operator to ensure the safety of himself and his workmates.

The next level is to provide further stabilisation of the base, this done with outriggers that can level and give a wider footprint enabling full use of the machines height and reach. The operator still needs to ensure the outriggers are on stable ground. On soft ground it may be necessary spread the load and reduce the pressure on the ground using spreader plates.
For access in the most difficult ground conditions and terrain Cherry Pickers are available with caterpillar type tracks and rely entirely on outriggers for stability. However these outriggers are more than just stabilisers. They can be articulated to provide a wide footprint over sloping and uneven ground. These Cherry Pickers don't use the wheelbase to provide stability they are designed only to move with the boom fully retracted. The smallest versions of this type of Cherry Picker are built to fit the tightest spaces and can even enter buildings through standard doorways.
