All about Cherry Pickers on iDoStuff
This series of pages is to give an overview of the safe use and selection Cherry Pickers.
Please Note: Disclaimer. You will notice the links to a specific Hire Company “Astley Hire” based in the Northwest of England. These pages are in the iDo “PRO” Stuff part of the site, so yes I do have a connection with this company. However the information is not directly attributable to Astley Hire. As the use / operation of this equipment is potentially extremely dangerous, specific advice should be gained directly from whichever company you source equipment from.
The term “Cherry Picker” is a common name used for a particular type of Mobile Elevated Work Platform. There is another type commonly called a “Scissor Lift” (I may write about these separately). I’ve mentioned this here so you are aware there are other types of powered equipment available that may be more suitable to your application. The section “Choosing the Right Cherry Picker” briefly mentions other equipment including manual access and scaffolding. When selecting the right equipment all alternatives should be considered in the light of safety and economics.
Notes on Cherry Picker Safety
The following pages should give you a good idea of the types of equipment available and the applications they are most suitable for. The basic safety considerations give a brief guide to the factors that need to be considered in advance of Cherry Picker being selected and used. In no way should this be regarded as a substitute for a full “Risk Assessment”
